Jamshedpur, Oct 18: A 40-year-old man who had sustained grievous injuries on being exposed to an IED blast in Saranda forest on Thursday morning, succumbed to his injuries at his home on Friday.
Identified as Sunil Surin, the victim was a resident of Markanda village under the Naxal-infested Jeraikela Thana area and had sustained injuries after stepping over an IED pressure bomb while walking through the Hiragiri jungle in Samta village under the Jeraikela Thana area itself.
According to a press release issued by the West Singhbhum police, having come to know about the man being critically injured in the IED blast, the residents of Markanda village had rescued him and brought him to his house for treatment instead of taking him to the hospital or informing the police.

Surin succumbed to his injuries at home on Friday afternoon. The family members had then informed the police, leading the latter to shift the body to the Chaibasa Sadar Hospital for postmortem.
It may be mentioned here that a big squad of CPI-Maoist rebels have entered into the Saranda forest since January 2023 before planting innumerable IEDs across the dense forest cover.
Though the Naxals including several top leaders from this outlawed outfit had planted the explosive devices aiming at inflicting injuries to the police as well as paramilitary forces, innocent villagers are falling victim to this evil design of the Maoists.
As of now over two dozen villagers including women have lost their lives on being exposed to the IED blasts in the Naxal-infested West Singhbhum.
