Jamshedpur, Sept 29: The city continues to witness a surge in criminal incidents, with the latest case reported from Tayyaba Nagar, under Mango police station.

On Sunday evening, unidentified assailants opened fire at a 23-year-old youth, Abu Sanan alias Babbo, over an extortion dispute.

Fortunately, the victim narrowly escaped unhurt, though the incident triggered panic and chaos in the area.

According to sources, Babbo runs a grocery store in the locality.

He was on his way to a friend’s house when three to four youths, who were lying in wait, intercepted him under the pretext of talking and suddenly began firing. Luckily, none of the bullets hit him.

Family members allege that a group of local criminals had been demanding extortion money from Babbo for the past few days and had even threatened to kill him when he resisted.

They identified the attackers as Waseem Akhtar alias Kale, Raunak Bacha, and Shahrukh alias Chuha Bacha.

As news of the firing spread, a large crowd gathered at the spot. Police reached the spot promptly, recovered empty cartridges, and launched an investigation.
