Jamshedpur, Sept 30: Panic gripped Garabasa locality under Golmuri police station area late on Monday night after a 22-year-old youth was brutally murdered, allegedly over witchcraft suspicion.

The body of Ajay Basa, also known as Dantu, was found in a pool of blood, triggering shock and anger among residents.

According to sources, Ajay had left home earlier in the evening with his friend Sandeep. When he did not return till late night, family members grew worried. Shortly afterwards, villagers discovered his blood-soaked body near Garabasa.

Locals alleged that Sandeep, who was reportedly involved in occult practices, is responsible for the murder. The incident sparked unrest in the area as villagers gathered in large numbers, demanding swift action.

Golmuri police station in-charge Sanjay Suman rushed to the spot with additional force and managed to bring the situation under control.

Police arrested Sandeep and have begun interrogation. Officials said the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination.

Ajay was the only son. Just a few days ago, his father had passed away after a prolonged illness, and now his brutal killing has left his mother and sister devastated.
