Ranchi, March 13: In a major push toward police modernisation and strengthening law and order in the state, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Friday handed over 1,485 modern vehicles to the Jharkhand Police and virtually laid the foundation stone for 12 new police stations across the state. The event was held at the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly complex in Ranchi.

Calling it a historic milestone in the 25-year history of the state, the Chief Minister said this is the largest fleet of vehicles provided to the police force at one time, aimed at improving policing efficiency and public safety.
Major Push for Police Modernisation
During the ceremony, the Chief Minister flagged off the vehicles and laid foundation stones for the new police stations by pressing a remote button. He also distributed appointment letters to candidates selected in various categories.

Soren said maintaining peace, law and order, and crime control—from cities to rural areas—is the responsibility of the police, and providing modern resources will help them discharge their duties more effectively.
According to the government, the new vehicles will significantly improve police mobility, response time, surveillance capacity, and patrolling operations, enabling faster action during emergencies.

636 Patrol Vehicles and 849 Bikes in First Phase
The State Government has sanctioned 1,255 patrolling vehicles and 1,697 two-wheelers for the Jharkhand Police.
In the first phase, the Chief Minister handed over 636 patrolling vehicles and 849 two-wheelers to various districts and police stations.
Officials said the vehicles will strengthen patrolling, quick response operations, monitoring of sensitive zones, rural surveillance, and crime prevention activities.

Dhurwa Kidnapping Case Highlighted
During his address, the Chief Minister cited the recent kidnapping of two minors under the Dhurwa police station area in Ranchi as an example of police efficiency.
He said that due to the swift action of the Jharkhand Police, the children were rescued quickly and an interstate child-theft gang was busted, strengthening public confidence in the police.
Soren added that with modern technology and improved infrastructure, the police force will become more capable of preventing crime.
Public Cooperation Essential for Law and Order
The Chief Minister also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order.
He said that crime prevention requires collective responsibility, urging people to share information and build stronger coordination with law enforcement agencies.
“The stronger the trust and cooperation between the police and the public, the stronger the state’s security system will be,” he said.
Soren also congratulated the newly appointed candidates and urged police personnel to work with dedication, sensitivity, and promptness, while giving special attention to the safety of vulnerable sections of society.

Those present at the event included Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, Ministers Radhakrishna Kishore, Sanjay Prasad Yadav, Dr. Irfan Ansari, Deepika Pandey and Shilpi Neha Tirkey, MLA Kalpana Soren, and Chief Secretary Avinash Kumar.
