Daltonganj, Dec 18: The officer-in-charge of the Ranka police station in Garhwa district, Shankar Prasad Kushwaha,35, has been injured in an encounter with the Naxals.
The injured police officer was brought to the Sadar Hospital Garhwa around 2am tonight December 18.
A noted surgeon, Dr Amit Kumar of the Sadar Hospital Garhwa, attended the injured officer-in-charge.
According to the surgeon, ” It was very good luck that the police officer Shankar Prasad Kushwaha was wearing a bulletproof jacket. A bullet shot hit him. The bullet got ricochet.”
“The bullet in ricochet hit the left wrist of the police officer and passed out through and through,” added Dr Amit Kumar.
“The ricochet bullet fractured his radius bone. It caused him immense muscle injuries. The police officer had a bout of active bleeding,” added Dr Amit Kumar.
The police officer was done hemostasis. It is a mechanism for cessation to bleeding from the vessels. He was given one unit of B-positive blood. His fractured radius bone was slabbed for support.
There was no x-ray done on the injured police officer post-midnight nevertheless clinically he looked to have fractured radius bone, reiterated Dr Amit Kumar.
The way the Sadar Hospital Garhwa reacted to the medical emergency at post-winter night has won a lot of public appreciation.
Dr Amit Kumar said, “We were told of this injured police officer coming to the Sadar Hospital Garhwa late winter night. We had every medical emergency service in order. The ambulance was in a stand-by position.”
The injured police officer on getting stable was referred to the higher centre in Ranchi.
Dr Amit Kumar said, “I had briefed Garhwa SP Deepak Pandey about his health condition and medical treatment provided to him by me and my team.”
The civil surgeon Garhwa, Dr Ashok Kumar, said, “Our surgeon and his team put in their best to make this police officer come out of the trauma.”
