THE JHARKHAND STORY NETWORK
Daltonganj, Sept 4: The Jharkhand police is going to have a pan Jharkhand Jan Shikayat Samadhan programme on September 10.
It invites common people to stand up and register their complaints even if it is against a constable or any higher police officer.
No frivolous complaints
The complaint has to be free of bias and based on facts, not frivolity. Frivolous complaints will be at the risk of the complainant.
Initiative is sincere and meaningful: SP
SP Reeshma Ramesan who finds this initiative sincere and meaningful said, “If somebody has a complaint about any cop or official, he should feel free to lodge it.”
“Such a complaint against a cop or official will be looked into. There are SP, DIG and IG to see it depending on the rank of the man in uniform against whom the complaint is all about,” said Reeshma Ramesan.
Campaign is brainchild of DGP Anurag Gupta
Jan Shikayat Samadhan Karyakaram is the brainchild of DGP Anurag Gupta who is determined to make police more and more responsible and accountable to the public and at the same time, public to have more and more faith in the functioning of the police.

People’s deficit of trust in the police portends no good to either side.
This correspondent spoke to some people cutting across political affiliations who said, “This DGP (Anurag Gupta) means business. This invite to common people to bring their grievances against men in uniform is a courageous effort on the part of the police which looks eager to know where and why people feel bad about them or what a police should shun like showing blatant favouritism to one party the most wrong way.”
Land dispute
“It has been seen that where police intervene in any land dispute matter on the demand of either one party or the other and where the land dispute is in the family or between the two families the police brazenly begin to take sides and this erodes the faith of the common man. This Jan Shikayat Samadhan Karyakaram will be a big expose of such police officials who play to the tune of someone,” reiterated the public.
The Jan Shikayat Samadhan Karyakaram will help reign in the cops and officials going errant to a great extent.
Reeshma Ramesan is very confident that this programme will help police and public both ways as it will foster understanding between the two.
The SP went on to say, “A beginning has been made. Let’s be sanguine about it. There will come newer ideas or planning in times to come to make this bold initiative a household name.”
This programme has two aspects. One is Jan Shikayat and the other is Samadhan (resolution of the complaint). Hence it is a twofold exercise to hear public complaints and to offer mitigational measures. Redressal is as focused as the complaint. The thrust is on the Samadhan as it brings in instant relief.
Again, a common man can seek help for his distress like a bad neighbour posing a problem to him or someone becoming a peeping Tom to know what the young and growing girls are doing in the house or when they are in the street for school or college.
Some people said, “There are some police officers at the police station levels who feel proud of not receiving the calls made on their cell phones. This is too wrong.”
Network issue
There is another issue. A police officer has invariably an official cell phone number and it is BSNL. But how many police officers are readily available to the public on the official BSNL number? It’s their private numbers that matter. The public has to have another number of police officers. Network issues are of course there but where the network is no problem there’s no BSNL connectivity with the police.
