Jharkhand Polls: 67.59% voter turnout till 5 pm in second phase

Ranchi, Nov 20: In the second phase of Jharkhand assembly elections, voter turnout stood at 67.59% by 5 PM.

As per the Election Commission of India (ECI) data, till 5 PM, Jamtara registered the highest voter turnout at 76.16%, followed by Pakur with 75.88% and Deoghar with 72.46%.

Bokaro registered the lowest voter turnout at 60.97%, while Dhanbad recorded 63.39%, Dumka 71.74%, Giridih 65.89%, Godda 67.24%, Hazaribagh 64.41%, Ramgarh 71.98%, Sahebganj 65.63% and state capital Ranchi recorded a turnout of 72.01% till 5 PM.

Constituency wise turnout

In Jharkhand, voter turnout for various constituencies till 5 PM was recorded as follows: Baghmara recorded 64.01%, Bagodar 64.99%, Barhet 66.13%, Bermo 63.58%, Bokaro 50.52%, Borio 65.72%, Chandankiyari 72.13%, Deoghar 65.76%, Dhanbad 52.31%, Dhanwar 60.87%, Dumka 70.39%, Dumri 70.70%, Gandey 70.83%, Giridih 67.12%, Godda 68.39%, and Gomia 67.68%.

Other constituencies saw the following turnouts till 5 PM: Jama recorded 71.27%, Jamtara 74.21%, Jamua 60.60%, Jarmundi 71.22%, Jharia 55.23%, Khijri 69.20%, Littipara 73.50%, Madhupur 75.72%, Mahagama 65.11%, Maheshpur 79.40%, Mandu 64.41%, Nala 78.72%, Nirsa 70.25%, Pakur 75.05%, Poraiyahat 68.35%, Rajmahal 65.25%, Ramgarh 71.98%, Sarath 77.94%, Shikaripara 74.31%, Silli 76.70%, Sindri 70.87%, and Tundi recorded 71.12%.

The voter turnout stood at 61.47% by 3 PM while it was 47.92% by 1 PM and 31.37% by 11 AM, whereas by 9 AM the estimated voter turnout for the second phase in Jharkhand was 12.71%.

528 candidates in fray

Meanwhile, voting commenced for the second phase in Jharkhand, covering 38 Assembly seats under tight security measures today. Since 7 AM of Wednesday morning, people were arriving at polling stations to cast their votes. In this phase, a total of 528 candidates are contesting, including 472 men and 55 women. One transgender candidate is also in the electoral arena in Jharkhand. Voting continued till 5 PM.

In Jharkhand’s second phase, there are 73 candidates from the national party, of which 60 are men and 13 are women. 28 candidates of recognised state-level Jharkhand parties are also in the electoral fray. This includes 23 male and five female candidates. The number of independent candidates is 257.

Voting held at 14,218 booths in Jharkhand

Voting was held at 14,218 booths for the 38 assembly seats in the second phase. The number of general booths in this was 7,390 and the number of booths in Naxal-affected areas was 900. Voting was held at 31 booths from 7 am to 4 pm. 585 companies of paramilitary forces and 60 companies of JAP were deployed for peaceful voting. About 30 thousand district force and home guard jawans were deployed.

In the second phase of voting in Jharkhand, elections were held in Rajmahal, Borio, Barhait, Littipara, Pakur, Maheshpur, Shikaripara, Nala, Jamtara, Dumka, Jama, Jarmundi, Madhupur, Sarath, Deoghar, Poraiyahat, Godda, Mahagama, Ramgarh, Mandu, Dhanwar, Bagodar, Jamua, Gandey, Giridih, Dumri, Gomia, Bermo, Bokaro, Chandankiyari, Sindri, Nirsa, Dhanbad, Jharia, Tundi, Baghmara, Silli and Khijri.
