Jamshedpur, Nov 9: Electioneering in Jamshedpur remained hectic on Saturday as two top leaders from the NDA and INDIA respectively campaigned the steel city in favour of their respective alliance candidates in the fray for the ensuing assembly elections.
Whereas Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a road show from Sakchi up to Baradwari to garner support for the BJP’s Jamshedpur East candidate Purnima Das and NDA partner JDU-sponsored candidate Saryu Roy, Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi attended a Congress rally at Mango in support of party’s Jamshedpur West candidate, Banna Gupta.
With Amit Shah along with the Jamshedpur MP, Vidyut Baran Mahto, Jamshedpur East and Jamshedpur West NDA candidates Purnima Das and Saryu Roy boarded on the decorated truck, the grand road show started rolling down towards Baradwari from the Jubilee Park’s Sakchi gate.
Thousands of BJP supporters were waiting for Amit Shah with flowers and bouquets in their hands. Shah received the supporter’s greetings by waving his hands at the jubilant crowd, a large number of whom were women.
Significantly, as the area where the roadshow was organised falls under the East Jamshedpur constituency, having a considerable population of Sikh community, several Sikh couples were found doing ‘Bhangra’ while greeting Shah.
The crowd turned out along the road up to Baradwari was unprecedented and seemed completely saffronised.
The Congress rally was held at Gandhi Maidan in Mango where Rahul Gandhi made a scathing attack on the BJP while campaigning in favour of the Jamshedpur West Congress candidate Banna Gupta. Congress candidate from the Jamshedpur East constituency Dr Ajay Kumar was also present at the dais.
Rahul Gandhi while addressing the gathering first lambasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for allegedly favouring Ambani and Adani and later lured the women voters with a financial bonanza of Rs 2,500 per month if the INDI alliance is voted to power again,
The Leader of the Opposition urged the people to ensure the victory of Banna Gupta by giving him their votes and also to Dr Ajoy Kumar.
