Dhanbad, Nov 12: Cine star and senior BJP leader from West Bengal, Mithun Chakraborty, questioned the demand for an apology over comments he made, insisting that he has not targeted any community.
He asked why should he tender an apology and from whom for a comment that has not been made against any community.
In a media interaction this morning, Chakraborty denied any need to apologize, asserting that his remarks were directed at a particular leader, not any community.
Clarification on remarks
Mithun Chakraborty explained that his comments were specifically aimed at a leader who had allegedly played the communal card.
“I have just spoken against a particular leader who was playing the communal card. The particular leader said that in his district there are 70% Muslims and 30% Hindus. He would chop off Hindus and drown them in the Bagirathi River,” said Chakraborty.
He emphasized that since he had not criticised any community, there was no reason for him to apologize. “Moreover, from whom I should tender an apology and why,” he repeated.

Controversy and FIR
An FIR was lodged against Chakraborty in Bengal for allegedly making hate speech during a BJP function on October 27 at the Eastern Zonal Culture Centre in Kolkata. While responding to a threat from TMC MLA Humayun Kabir, Chakraborty had warned the government, saying, “I would chop off four if one is killed.”
He defended his stance, stating, “In my entire life, I never played communal politics. Moreover, in that function, I did not mention the word ‘Muslim’ ever. So why would I tender an apology?”
Threats and political views
Pakistan-based gangster Shahzad Bhatti had reportedly demanded an apology from Chakraborty for his comments and threatened to kill him if he did not comply within 10 days.
On the political front, Mithun Chakraborty, along with BJP Asansol MLA Agnimitra Pall, arrived in Dhanbad on Monday evening to campaign in the Sindri and Nirsa constituencies. Chakraborty expressed confidence in a BJP wave sweeping Jharkhand, noting a shift in favour of the party.
“Mai Rajniti nahi Karta balki Manushya Niti karta hu (I do not do politics, but do human policy). So, change is necessary for the development of the state,” he said.
He also reiterated his stance on illegal infiltration, stating that he is against it but welcomes legal immigration to the country.
