Ranchi, Nov 22: The body of a youth identified as Sushil Mahto, son of an employee of railway electric Loco Shed, was found in an abandoned deep mining pit of Khemsi Mines under the Topchachi police station, around 40 km away from the district headquarters, on Wednesday morning.
A Topchachi police station official said that the body was seen floating in pit water at around 7 am. A passerby saw the body and informed the villagers as well as police. The body was identified as Sushil Mahto (19), son of railway employee Ghanshyam Mahto.

Villagers said that Sushil had gone near the abandoned mine in the early morning. He might have slipped into the pit that is full of water. Since he did not know how to swim, he drowned in it. According to a member of the family, Sushil had been suffering from epilepsy disease. He might have received its attack and fallen into the pit.
The Topchachi police station official said that the body has been sent to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad for post-mortem. Only after getting the report anything could be said about death.
