Daltonganj, Feb 17: A team of officials from Raj Bhavan, led by OSD (J) to the Governor, Mukulesh Chandra Narain and Additional Secretary A.K. Satyajeet, began a two-day inspection of the Academic Bhavan at Nilamber Pitamber University in Daltonganj today.

Upon arrival in Daltonganj, the Raj Bhavan team was joined by M. Ram, Executive Engineer of the PWD Building Division.

The team conducted a thorough inspection of the G+4 storeyed Academic Bhavan, assessing various aspects of the building’s construction and maintenance. They personally navigated the staircases to reach the top floor, where they found several issues:

  • Poor-quality doors, which were in bad condition.
  • Faulty drainage system and improperly set paver blocks.
  • Shabby ground floor with dirty, rain-washed walls.

Concerns Raised Over Construction Quality

State Finance Minister Radha Krishna Kishore had visited the Academic Bhavan on February 11 and expressed strong dissatisfaction with the quality of work.

Following his visit, on February 13, he met Governor-cum-Chancellor Santosh Gangwar and submitted a memorandum, urging him to initiate a probe into the construction quality and the hasty takeover of the building by the university on January 24—just a week before the retirement of then-Acting Vice-Chancellor Bal Kishun Munda, who was also the Divisional Commissioner of Palamu at the time.

Taking immediate action, Raj Bhavan dispatched the inspection team to Nilamber Pitamber University.

University’s Stand and Further Inspection

Dr. S.K. Mishra, In-Charge Registrar of Nilamber Pitamber University, accompanied the team throughout the inspection.

Sources stated that the university had long been under pressure to take over the Academic Bhavan, which it had been delaying. However, on January 24, the takeover was finalized.

Regarding the absence of drinking water facilities, the OSD (J) clarified that this responsibility lies with the Drinking Water and Sanitation Department, and the university must take the necessary steps to address it.

The Raj Bhavan team is scheduled to conduct a final round of inspection on February 18, according to university sources.
