Dhanbad, February 10: On Saturday, Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) Dhanbad paid rich tributes to one of its founder professors, Dr KN Mittal, at a condolence meeting.

Dr Mittal (86), who died in Dhanbad on February 2,  joined Dhanbad Medical College in 1979 and retired in 1999.

SNMMCH Principal Dr Jyotiranjan Prasad, while paying tributes to Dr Mittal, said that he was among the selected teachers who played a significant role in establishing the Patliputra Medical College Hospital (Now SNMMCH) and making it famous.

Prof (Dr) UK Ojha, HoD medicine; Dr SK Mandal, HoD, skin; Prof (Dr) Ashutosh Kumar, ENT; Prof (Dr) Makra Dhwaj Prasad, HoD, anatomy, paid tributes and said that the death of Dr Mittal is a loss to Dhanbad as well as Jharkhand.

Both sons of Dr Mittal, Dr Vibhutinath and Amarnath, were also present at the condolence meeting and paid tributes. Dr Dinesh Gindhoria, from the surgery department, conducted the condolence meeting.


Dr Mittal joined the then Patliputra Medical College Hospital (PMCH) Dhanbad as an associate professor in 1979.

Dr KN Mittal began his career at Rajendra Medical College Hospital Ranchi in 1972 and became assistant Professor in the skin, VD, and leprosy department at Patliputra Medical College Hospital Patna in the same year.

In 1979, the Bihar government sent him to PMCH Dhanbad as a specialist physician of skin, VD and leprosy department in the post of associate Professor. He became a professor and head of the department in 1990.

Dr Mittal completed his MBBS from RMCH Ranchi in 1966 and his MD from PMCH Patna in 1974. He completed PhD from PMCH Patna in 1977 and FRSH London in 1984.

Dr LB Tudu, Dr Ansul, Dr Veenit Tigga, and other faculty members and students paid floral tributes to him.
