Dhanbad, April 14: Anmol Murarka and Kush Mundra clinched the under-19 and under-13 titles respectively at the 1st Varugeese Koshy Memorial Chess Tournament, organized by the West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA).

The tournament concluded on Sunday evening. A total of 92 boys and girls participated in the competition, which was held at the Sitaram Rungta Recreation Hall, Town Club.

Anmol Murarka scored a perfect six points from six rounds to secure the first position in the under-19 category. Similarly, Kush Mundra also earned six points, emerging champion in the under-13 age group.

Winners Across Age Categories

In the under-15 events, Lalit Kishore Bandra and Soumya Prabha Soi were declared champions in the boys’ and girls’ categories, respectively. In the under-11 group, Ankur Rathore and Aditi secured first place in the boys’ and girls’ sections.

Sumant Kachhap and Maira Shah claimed the under-9 boys’ and girls’ titles, while Adwitiya Kumar and Hitika Kujur won in the under-7 category.

Under-19 and Under-13 Detailed Results

In the under-19 boys’ event, Hursh Murarka finished second with five points, followed by Sri Das Pirojiwala, who scored 4.5 points, and Sachin Mundia, who secured the fourth position.

In the under-13 category, Samridhi Priya finished as the runner-up with five points, while Devraj Kumar and Ekansh Shah secured the third and fourth positions respectively.

Closing Ceremony

Sohanlal Mundra served as the chief guest at the closing ceremony and, along with guest of honour Pawan Khirwal, distributed prizes to the winners. Manish Sharma acted as the chief arbiter.

District Chess Association president Mukund Rungta, vice-president Jahagir Alam, general secretary Basant Khandelwal, along with Narendra Nath Pandey and Jaydeo Tripathi, were also present at the event.

Arpit Khirwal, Hursh Sharma, Suraj Tiu, Arun Prasad, Nirmal Chandra Tripathi, and Subrat Chandra Tripathi played significant roles in ensuring the tournament’s success.
