Dhanbad, April 4: The West Singhbhum District Chess Association (WSDCA) is set to organize the International Master (IM) Varugeese Koshy Memorial Open Prize Money Chess Tournament on April 13.

Sharing details of the event, WSDCA General Secretary Basant Khandelwal stated that the one-day tournament will feature Under-19 and Under-13 categories for both boys and girls. The competition will take place at the Sitaram Rungta Recreation Hall of Town Club.

The tournament will be played in a six-round format, with each round lasting 10 minutes plus a five-second increment. The top four players in both the Under-19 and Under-13 categories will be awarded cash prizes along with trophies.

“In addition, we will also offer cash prizes to the winners in the Under-7, Under-9, and Under-11 categories for both boys and girls. The last date for registration is April 12,” said Basant Khandelwal.

International Master Varugeese Koshy, a former student of Tata College, Chaibasa (West Singhbhum), was a key figure in promoting chess in Jharkhand. He passed away last year in Chennai.
