Ranchi / Davos, January 19: Jharkhand marked a strong start at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting 2026 with a series of high-level global engagements on the opening day, positioning the State prominently in international economic and policy discussions. The delegation, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, focused on building long-term partnerships and attracting global investment.

Focus on investment, technology and sustainability

The State’s Day One engagements were centred around the India Pavilion and the Jharkhand Lounge, which hosted interactions with senior leaders from global corporations, international business councils, and institutional partners. Discussions reflected Jharkhand’s priorities in industrial manufacturing, digital transformation, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth.

Meetings with Tata Steel reaffirmed Jharkhand’s historic role in India’s industrialisation and its transition towards advanced and sustainable manufacturing. Engagements with Hitachi India explored opportunities in infrastructure, energy systems, and technology-led solutions, while talks with Tech Mahindra focused on innovation ecosystems, digital governance, and future-ready skill development.

Global partnerships and inclusive leadership

The delegation also interacted with representatives from Bloomberg APAC, the Sweden India Business Council, and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) to explore investment facilitation, global market integration, and cross-border collaboration. Meetings with senior officials of the World Economic Forum reinforced Jharkhand’s commitment to global economic platforms.

An interaction with the Women Political Leaders (WPL) network highlighted the State’s emphasis on inclusive leadership and gender-responsive governance as drivers of economic growth.

Visits to global technology pavilions on the opening day offered insights into emerging innovations, supporting Jharkhand’s efforts to align industrial development with sustainability and advanced technologies.

As Jharkhand marks 25 years of statehood and looks ahead to Vision 2050, its opening-day participation at WEF 2026 signals a clear transition from regional presence to active global engagement, with a focus on responsible investment and long-term partnerships.
