Ranchi, August 15: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar announced major education initiatives during his Independence Day speech at Morhabadi Ground, highlighting plans to establish new residential schools modelled on the prestigious Netarhat Residential School.

Education at the Core

The Governor revealed that new Netarhat-style residential schools will be set up in West Singhbhum, Bokaro and Dumka, with 100 new “Excellent Schools” also in the pipeline. A bicycle distribution scheme for Year 8 students from Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes and Minority Communities aims to curb school dropouts, benefiting around four lakh pupils.

Economic Growth and Law & Order

Gangwar said Jharkhand is becoming a hub for opportunities in infrastructure, energy, industry, education, health, agriculture and sports. He credited youth, farmers, women and entrepreneurs for driving progress. On security, he reported the arrest of 197 Naxalites, the killing of 17 and the surrender of 10 in recent operations.

Support for Farmers and Fishermen

Under the Kisan Samriddhi Yojana, farmers are receiving solar pumps at 90% subsidy, while ₹2,300 crore in farm loans have been waived. Fisheries production is being boosted with a target of 1,275 crore fish seeds, resulting in over 3.5 lakh metric tonnes of output in 2024–25.

Healthcare and Food Security

The Mukhyamantri Abua Swasthya Yojana offers free treatment up to ₹15 lakh per year for eligible families. New medical colleges are being set up, alongside a ₹10,000 crore super-speciality hospital (RIMS-2) in Ranchi. Food security measures include free rice and wheat for 2.6 crore people and doorstep delivery of rice to 75,000 particularly vulnerable tribal families.

“To ensure consistent radiology services—including X-rays, CT scans and MRIs—a central radiology hub will be set up at Sadar Hospital, Ranchi. At the rural level, the Mukhyamantri Digital Health Yojana will be rolled out over the next five years to strengthen the health infrastructure,” he said.
