Thunderstorms to continue till September 12

The unsettled weather is likely to continue on September 11, when isolated parts of Jharkhand may experience thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph.

On September 12, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated locations across the state.

Low-pressure system driving weather activity

The prevailing weather conditions are associated with a low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh, which persisted over the region on September 7. Its associated cyclonic circulation extended up to 4.5 km above mean sea level.

The monsoon trough is also active. It extends from Sri Ganganagar through Narnaul, the centre of the low-pressure area over central Uttar Pradesh, Dehri, Purulia and Digha before moving east-southeastwards towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.

An additional upper-air cyclonic circulation over northeast Bihar and adjoining areas, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, is also contributing to the moisture-laden conditions over Jharkhand and neighbouring regions.

With lightning, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected at isolated places, residents should exercise caution during periods of severe weather and avoid exposed locations during lightning activity.
