Ranchi, Feb 21: Jharkhand University of Technology (JUT) has opened the opportunity of part-time PhD courses for employees and scholars engaged in public and private sector research organisations.

Full-time vs Short-term PhD

In this regard, JUT Ranchi vice-chancellor (V-C) Dr DK Singh has issued admission notice for full-time and part-time PhD programmes 2024 25 in various engineering, technology, management and science departments.

JUT is the first institution in Jharkhand to open an opportunity for a part-time PhD. Under a part-time PhD system, the interested persons would research while working in his organisation. In contrast, the candidate must regularly present for a full-time PhD at the university.

National Programme of Technology Enhanced Learning

The PhD programme will be conducted through the National Programme of Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL/ SWAYAM).

A senior authority of JUT Ranchi said that this is (part-time PhD) an ambitious project of V-C Dr DK Singh in which employees working in CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, BARC, PSU research organisations of the central as well as the state government, and reputed industries will get the opportunity of PhD. However, the candidate must have one year of working experience.

Experts of state-based technical institutions have highly appreciated the part-time PhD course at JUT. A senior faculty member of BIT Sindri, Prof Ghanshyam (chairman of the Career Development Centre), said it is an ambitious step to foster academic excellence and research opportunities for eligible and interested candidates in academia, research organisations, and industries.

“Eligibility of minimum one year experience in CSIR, DRDO, ISRO, BARC and PSU for competing part-time PhD programme demonstrates a thoughtful consideration for professionals seeking academic pursuits while contributing to their respective fields,” commented Prof Ghanshyam.

Several technical experts also hailed the decision of JUT vice-chancellor Dr DK Singh to conduct PhD course programme through NPTEL/ SWAYAM.
