The Ranchi Meteorological Centre said the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy with intermittent rain or thundershowers from July 24 to July 28. Similar conditions are likely to continue on July 29 and 30, with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers.

Maximum temperatures are expected to remain between 28°C and 29°C, while minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 22°C to 23°C, keeping weather conditions pleasant across most parts of Jharkhand.

IMD issues thunderstorm and heavy rain alert

The IMD has issued a warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places across Jharkhand from July 26 to July 28.

The weather office has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall in different regions of the state:

  • July 27: North-central and adjoining eastern parts
  • July 28: Central and adjoining northern districts

The forecast indicates that the active monsoon phase is likely to improve rainfall activity across the state during the coming week.

Jharkhand rainfall deficit improves to 27%

Jharkhand’s cumulative monsoon rainfall has shown a significant improvement, although it remains below the seasonal average.

According to IMD data, the state received 315.5 mm of rainfall between June 1 and July 24, against the normal 434.7 mm, reducing the overall rainfall deficit to 27%.

Among the districts, West Singhbhum (-1%) and Seraikela-Kharsawan (-2%) have recorded near-normal rainfall. Sahibganj (-6%), Simdega (-11%) and Ranchi (-13%) have also reported comparatively better monsoon performance.

Several districts continue to face rainfall shortage

Despite the recent improvement, several districts continue to record a severe rainfall deficit.

Garhwa (-64%), Chatra (-63%), Pakur (-59%), Deoghar (-56%) and Koderma (-51%) remain the worst-affected districts.

In East Singhbhum, cumulative rainfall stood at 367.4 mm against the normal 465.2 mm, leaving the district with a 21% deficit.

Meteorologists expect the ongoing wet spell to further improve rainfall distribution across Jharkhand, providing much-needed relief to rain-deficit districts and supporting agricultural activities during the peak monsoon season.
