Jharkhand Weather: Heavy showers likely in southern parts of state today

Jamshedpur, July 20: The well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts has concentrated into a depression over northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal about 70 km southeast of Puri (Odisha), 130 km East of Gopalpur (Odisha), 130 km south-southeast of Paradip (Odisha) and 240 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

The depression is expected to trigger heavy showers in southern Jharkhand today.

Weathermen said the depression is likely to move northwestwards and cross the Odisha coast near Puri.

Thereafter, it would move west-northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh and weaken gradually.

The Monsoon trough at mean sea level was today passing through Jaisalmer, Kota, Guna, Sagar, Raipur, Puri and thence southeastwards to the centre of depression over northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal off Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh coasts extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely to occur at isolated places over the state in the next 24 hours.

The forecast also suggested heavy rainfall at isolated places over south and adjoining central parts of the state tomorrow on Monday, July 22.

Jamshedpur and it’s adjoining areas have been experiencing intermittent rains since early morning today.
