Jamshedpur, Dec 6: Cold conditions intensified across Jharkhand on Saturday, with Gumla emerging as the coldest location in the state, recording a minimum temperature of just 3.0°C.

The sharp drop in temperature was highlighted in the IMD’s bulletin, which noted that while several regions witnessed a fall in both maximum and minimum temperatures, Gumla reported the lowest minimum temperature, marking a significant dip and signalling the onset of near–cold wave conditions in western Jharkhand.

Across other districts, minimum temperatures hovered between 8°C and 12°C, but Gumla stood out with a steep decline, influenced by persistent north-westerly dry winds sweeping through the region.

The maximum temperature in Gumla was recorded at 23.1°C, reflecting a mild daytime warmth but severe night chill.

The report confirmed:

Lowest minimum temperature: Gumla: 3.0°C

Highest maximum temperature: Godda: 29.1°C

Rainfall: No rainfall recorded anywhere in Jharkhand in the past 24 hours

Lowest Visibility: Jamshedpur: 1100 m

The significant temperature variation between day and night, along with dry conditions, has prompted weather officials to caution residents—especially the elderly, young children and early-morning commuters—to take necessary precautions.

With no major weather systems active over the state, IMD expects the cold spell to persist over the next 48 hours, particularly across the western districts, including Gumla, Latehar, Simdega and Lohardaga.

Local authorities have urged people to stay warm, avoid late-night exposure to cold winds and be alert to further temperature drops as winter intensifies.
