Jamshedpur, June 24:  The southwest monsoon is yet to get momentum in the state and due to this many places are devoid of rain.

According to Met statistics, many places in southern, central and north-western Jharkhand are yet to get the first spell of monsoon rain.

“This is probably the first time in many years Jharkhand is witnessing a dry monsoon. Though monsoon has set in over the state but many places have not yet experienced rains, ” said a weather official at Ranchi Met Centre.

The Ranchi Met Centre predicted thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over the state today.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 40-50 kmph) are also likely at isolated places over the state tomorrow.

Heavy rainfall forecast was issued for north-eastern parts of the state on June 25 and 26.

Monsoon Update 

The southwest monsoon has advanced into some more parts of the Arabian Sea, Gujarat state; remaining parts of Maharashtra; some more parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh; remaining parts of Odisha and some parts of Jharkhand.

The Northern Limit of the Monsoon continues to pass through 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/63°E, 20.5°N/70°E, Veraval, Rajpipla, Ujjain, Vidisha, Siddhi, Chaibasa, Haldia, Pakur, Sahibganj and Raxaul.

Conditions are favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of the North Arabian Sea and Gujarat; some more parts of Madhya Pradesh; remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar; some parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand during the next three days.

Synoptic Features 

The east-west trough was running from a cyclonic circulation over central Rajasthan to south Chhattisgarh across Madhya Pradesh and extends upto 0.9 km above mean sea level.

The cyclonic circulation over interior Odisha adjoining Chhattisgarh was lying over south Chhattisgarh between 1.5 & 7.6 km above mean sea level tilting southwestwards with height.
