PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, June 28: A weak monsoon is yet to cover the entire Jharkhand even after eight days of its arrival.

Perhaps this is for the first time in recent few years that such a situation has been faced in Jharkhand.

Southwest monsoon has set in over Jharkhand on June 21, after a delay of six days. But, due to its slow pace monsoon is taking time to cover the entire state.

Weathermen said conditions are likely to become favourable in the next 24 hours for further movement of monsoon in Jharkhand and other parts of the country.

The Northern Limit of Monsoon passes through 26.5°N/60°E, 25.5°N/65°E, Barmer, Jaipur, Agra, Banda, Siddhi, Chaibasa, Haldia, Pakur, Patna, Maharajganj, Dehradun, Una, Pathankot and Jammu.

A weather bulletin today said conditions are likely to become favourable for further advance of the southwest monsoon into some more parts of Rajasthan; the remaining parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, some more parts of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Chandigarh and some parts of Haryana, some more parts of Punjab, remaining parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu during next two days.

Today, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty wind (max wind speed: 30-40 kmph) likely at isolated places over the state.

IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre also issued an alert of heavy rain in northern parts of the country this weekend.

Synoptic Features

A cyclonic circulation lies over north Bangladesh at 0.9 km above the mean sea level.

The cyclonic circulation over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal now lies over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level.
