Jamshedpur, Feb 13: A 20-year-old youth was fatally wounded for stealing an LPG cylinder under the Sidhgora Thana area in the steel city on Monday.

Identified as Aman Munda, the victim had been admitted to the MGM Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries in the night.

The incident took place at Jahertola in Baridih under the densely-populated Sidhgora Thana area triggering sensation there.

Thrashed with sticks

Besides Aman, another youth identified as Sanjit Dhan, in the same age group as Aman fell victim to the frenzied mob’s wrath, resulting in grievous injuries to the youth who is undergoing treatment at the medical college hospital.

Both Aman and Sanjit were caught while carrying the gas cylinder at about 4.00 am on Monday, arousing suspicion that the duo might have stolen the cylinder from any house in the locality.

Initially, some local residents grilled the two and when they confirmed that what they had suspected was true more people joined them and started thrashing them with sticks for a pronged time.

Significantly, the assailants had forced the two to take out their jackets before beginning the thrashing.

Police arrest three, deny mob lynching

The thrashing continued until a police party reached the spot, but by then it was too late. The police rescued the two and rushed them to the medical college hospital where Aman succumbed to his injuries in the night.

Sidhgora Thana OC confirmed about death of Aman Munda, but refused to accept it as a case of mob lynching.

“4-5 persons had assaulted Aman and Sanjit whereas a large number of residents were just onlookers. It cannot be said a case of mob lynching, ” said the OC while talking to The Jharkhand Story.

The OC, however, claimed that three of the accused have already been arrested, and added that attempts are on to arrest the rest of the accused.
