Ranchi, Jan 4: A three-day training programme on scientific beekeeping methods was inaugurated on Friday at the Ambedkar Auditorium of Vikas Bharti, located in the Bishunpur block of Gumla district. The programme was sponsored by the Sidho Kanho Agriculture and Forest Produce State Cooperative Union Limited, Ranchi.

The event was inaugurated by Padma Shri awardee Dr Ashok Bhagat, Senior Advisor of the Sidho Kanho Agriculture and Forest Produce State Cooperative Union Limited Kumar Saurabh, and Development Officer Bindeshwari Sharma.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Bhagat highlighted that Jharkhand’s climate is highly suitable for beekeeping.
“Vikas Bharti has been promoting beekeeping since 1983 and has created numerous opportunities for the farmers in this region,” he said.

Dr. Bhagat also mentioned that the institute is working to connect local farmers to markets, helping them earn higher incomes. “This initiative will continue in the future, benefiting not just the Gumla district but farmers across the state on a larger scale,” he added.

Addressing the gathering, Kumar Saurabh stated that the institute is committed to providing market access to farmers, ensuring maximum income for them while contributing to environmental conservation in the region.

Several prominent figures attended the programme, including Dr. Sanjay Kumar, Senior Scientist at Krishi Vigyan Kendra; Mahendra Bhagat, Joint Secretary of Vikas Bharti; Pankaj Kumar Singh, Principal of the Training Centre; Agricultural Scientist Dr. Nisha Tiwari; Atal Tiwari; and Beekeeping Trainer Anand Kumar.

The primary objective of the program is to make villagers self-reliant through beekeeping.

Dr. Ashok Bhagat Meets Governor

In a separate event, Dr. Ashok Bhagat, Secretary of Vikas Bharti, Bishunpur, paid a courtesy visit to Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Raj Bhavan today. During the meeting, Dr. Bhagat extended New Year 2025 greetings to the Governor and briefed him about the organization’s various activities and achievements.

The Governor expressed his best wishes for the organization’s continued success in its efforts.
