Bengaluru, Nov 14: In an effort to curb fraudulent activities, including cheating through Bluetooth devices, the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) has prohibited the use of any type of head covering in recruitment exams conducted for boards and corporations.
Nonetheless, the exam body has permitted toe rings and mangalsutras, which are beaded necklaces worn by married Hindu women, in response to opposition from right-wing groups.
While the dress code issued by the examination authority didn’t explicitly include the hijab in the list of prohibited items, the regulations against head covers will effectively restrict its use during the recruitment exams.
The declaration was made ahead of the upcoming exams for various boards and corporations scheduled to take place on November 18 and 19 throughout the state.
The KEA mentioned that “Any garment or cap that covers head, mouth, or ears” is prohibited in the exam room. The directive indicates that this measure is a part of the initiative to prevent malpractices in exams, particularly those involving the use of Bluetooth devices.
During the recruitment exams conducted in October, the KEA had permitted the wearing of hijabs.
