Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20: The Neyyattinkara Additional District Sessions Court in Kerala sentenced 24-year-old Greeshma to death on Monday for poisoning her boyfriend, Sharon Raj, with a pesticide-laced ayurvedic decoction in 2022.
The victim, a 23-year-old from Parassala in Thiruvananthapuram district, succumbed to the deliberate act that stunned the community.
The court dismissed Greeshma’s plea for leniency, which was based on her academic achievements, lack of a criminal record, and being her parents’ only daughter, stating that the gravity of the crime outweighed such considerations.

The detailed 586-page verdict emphasized that the seriousness of the act justified the capital punishment.
In addition, the court sentenced Nirmalakumaran Nair, Greeshma’s uncle and the third accused in the case, to three years of rigorous imprisonment. However, Greeshma’s mother Sindhu was acquitted.
