New Delhi, August 1: Khalid Jamil has been appointed as the head coach of the Indian men’s football team, becoming the first Indian to take charge of the national side in over a decade.

Currently managing Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League, the 49-year-old will succeed Manolo Marquez.

Jamil emerged as the preferred choice from a three-man shortlist that also featured former India coach Stephen Constantine and Slovakian tactician Stefan Tarkovic.
Jamil’s appointment marks a historic moment for Indian football, as no home-grown coach has held the role since Savio Madeira’s brief tenure between October 2011 and March 2012.
