PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Sept 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light to moderate rain and thundershowers at a few places across Jharkhand on Saturday (20 September).

The intensity of rainfall activity is expected to increase over the next few days, with widespread rain and thundershowers likely between September 21 and 23.

According to the weather bulletin, the line of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon continues to pass through 31°N/74°E, covering Bhatinda, Fatehabad, Pilani, Ajmer, Deesa, Bhuj, and 23°N/68°E, indicating that the retreat of monsoon from northwestern parts of the country is underway, though it remains active over Jharkhand.

Synoptic Features

An east–west trough is running from northwest Uttar Pradesh to east Bangladesh across Bihar and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal at around 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

Monsoon activity remained normal over Jharkhand during the past 24 hours.

Realized Weather

Light to moderate rainfall was reported at a few places across the state.

The highest rainfall of 40.8 mm was recorded at Daltonganj during the last 24 hours.

The highest maximum temperature was registered at Pakur (36.1°C), reflecting hot and humid conditions in several pockets despite scattered showers.

The IMD has advised citizens and farmers to stay alert for localized thundershowers in the coming days.

With monsoon activity still prevailing, agricultural operations and water reservoirs in the state are likely to receive a fresh boost.
