PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, May 16: Train operations at Tatanagar railway junction continue to face major disruption due to ongoing line block works across multiple railway sections, leading to delays, route diversions and short terminations of several trains.

According to Chakradharpur Railway Division authorities, the Tatanagar–Buxar Express will continue to depart with delays ranging between 125 and 225 minutes till May 17 under a special traffic regulation introduced for maintenance and technical upgrade work.

Officials said the revised timings are intended to prevent trains from getting stranded for long periods due to congestion caused by the line block.

Passengers Face Delays and Travel Disruptions

The disruption has affected passengers over the past week, with the Tatanagar–Buxar Express also departing significantly late on May 10 and May 14.

Long-distance travellers have reported difficulties in managing connecting train and bus journeys because of repeated delays.

Services Affected in Adra Division

Rail traffic in the Adra Railway Division has also been impacted by ongoing infrastructure work.

Railway authorities said:

  • The Asansol–Tatanagar MEMU will operate only up to Adra station from May 15 to May 17 before returning.
  • The Tata–Hatia Express is currently operating on a diverted route.

On Thursday, the Dhanbad–Adityapur Express and the Asansol–Tatanagar MEMU were also terminated at Adra and sent back because of the continuing line block.

Railway Officials Cite Safety and Infrastructure Upgrades

Railway officials said the line block is necessary for engineering, traction, signalling and telecommunication-related works aimed at improving operational safety and efficiency.

The repeated changes in train schedules and routes have caused inconvenience to passengers across Kolhan, Jharkhand and West Bengal, affecting both daily commuters and long-distance travellers.

Railway authorities have advised passengers to check updated train schedules before starting their journeys.
