Jamshedpur, August 2: Loyola School hosted the annual Thomas Paul Science Quiz on Friday at the Fasy Auditorium, welcoming student teams from 19 schools across Jamshedpur for a day of academic competition and collaboration.
Honouring a Respected Educator
The quiz is organised in memory of Sir Thomas Paul, a former Physics and Mathematics teacher at Loyola School, who taught senior students from 1984 until his untimely passing in a road accident. Known for his clear teaching style and dedication to science education, Sir Thomas remains a lasting influence on generations of students. The event continues to uphold the values he championed.
Inauguration and Opening Ceremony
The day began at 9:30 a.m. with a brief welcome by the Master of Ceremonies. The lighting of the ceremonial lamp followed, led by key dignitaries: Rector Fr. Mike Raj, former Rector Fr. K.M. Joseph, Principal Fr. Vinod Fernandes, Vice Principal Jayanthi Sheshadri, and Quiz Master Deepak P. Kamath.

Fr. Mike Raj led the audience in prayer, and Fr. Vinod Fernandes delivered the welcome address, setting the tone for the event. Kamath, an alumnus from the Class of 1988 and currently the CEO of Tata Steel Support Services Limited, was introduced as this year’s quiz master.

Competition Highlights
After a rigorous preliminary round, six teams advanced to the finals. Kamath conducted the quiz, guiding participants through a series of rounds that tested their knowledge across a range of scientific topics.
Little Flower School secured first place, with DBMS English School finishing second, and Jusco School Kadma placing third.
Closing Remarks
Following the announcement of winners, Kamath was honoured by Fr. Mike Raj, Fr. K.M. Joseph, and Sheshadri for his contribution to the event. In a brief address, he encouraged students to remain curious and committed to learning.
Sheshadri concluded the event with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the efforts of participants, teachers, organisers, and guests.
