Bhopal, Oct 5: The government of Madhya Pradesh has announced that, with the exception of the state’s Forest department, women will now be given a 35 percent reservation in recruitment.

The Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997 have been amended by the state government to grant women 35% reservation.

According to the notification, “Notwithstanding anything contained in any service rules, there shall be reserved 35 percent of all posts in the service under the state (except Forest Department) in favour of women at the stage of direct recruitment and the said reservation shall be horizontal and compartment-wise.”

Previously, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also declared to provide a 35 per cent quota for women in both police and other government employment, as well as a 50 per cent reservation for women in teaching positions.

Precedence will be granted to women in local government bodies, which includes positions such as aldermen and other roles. The government will cover the educational expenses of girls, ensuring that they receive improved access to quality education.

The Women’s Reservation Bill, which was recently approved by Parliament, officially became a law following President Droupadi Murmu’s assent.
