Residents seek post-mortem facility at Mahuadnar

The incident has once again highlighted the difficulties faced by residents of Mahuadnar block, particularly when post-mortem examinations require families to travel long distances.

Mahuadnar has 14 panchayats and more than 100 villages. Residents have urged Latehar Deputy Commissioner Sandip Kumar to consider establishing a post-mortem facility in Mahuadnar to reduce the hardship involved in transporting bodies to Latehar.

Responding to the demand, the Deputy Commissioner said the issue was legitimate and deserved consideration.

“The issue is very legitimate. It is a genuine concern. A spacious community health centre has come up and is expected to start functioning soon at Mahuadnar. Let me find out whether a separate post-mortem facility can be established there,” Kumar said.

He also pointed out that such a facility would require medical personnel and trained staff.

“We need doctors and post-mortem examination assistants too. Let me see how it is possible,” the Deputy Commissioner said.

The administration’s response has raised hopes among residents that a local post-mortem facility could eventually be established at Mahuadnar, reducing the need for families to undertake long journeys during emergencies.
