New Delhi, July 20: Manoj Soni, the chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), has resigned. Soni cited “personal reasons” for stepping down before the completion of his term, which was set to end in May 2029.
According to sources, he submitted his resignation to the President in the last week of June, but it has not yet been accepted.
The UPSC is led by a chairman and can have up to 10 members. Currently, there are seven members, three short of the approved number.

Soni served three terms as VC before joining UPSC
Eminent educationist Manoj Soni joined UPSC as a member on 28 June 2017. He was made the chairman of UPSC on 16 May 2023.
Prior to joining the UPSC, Dr. Manoj Soni served as Vice-Chancellor for three terms.
He held two consecutive terms at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU) from August 1, 2009, to July 31, 2015, and one term at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda (MSU) from April 2005 to April 2008.
At the time of his appointment at MSU, Dr. Soni was the youngest Vice-Chancellor in the history of the university and India.
