Dhanbad, March 29: Rattled by the selection of controversial Baghmara MLA Dhulu Mahto as the BJP’s candidate in Dhanbad, the Marwari community and traders’ body have pressed the panic button.
Krishna Agrawal’s letter to Marandi
Dhanbad District Marwari Sammelan president Krishna Agrawal, on Friday, while opposing Dhulu Mahto’s candidature, shot off a letter to BJP Jharkhand president and former chief minister Babulal Marandi saying that panic has prevailed in the community following his selection.
“The Marwari community and district traders are apprehensive as 49 cases related to extortion demand, land grab allegation, and others are pending against the Baghmara MLA. In four cases, he has been convicted up to 18 months. So, the Marwari community requests you to reconsider the name of Dhulu Mahto before the party repents on its decision after the poll result,” said Krishna Agrawal in his letter to Marandi.
Marwaris are BJP supporters
The District Marwari Sammel president said that members of the Marwari community are considered staunch supporters of the BJP. “Even if a member votes for another party, no one believes that. So, it is the responsibility of the BJP to field a candidate with a clean image, not a person who has been facing several criminal cases.
Dhulu Mahto holds AITUC flag
In his letter to the BJP Jharkhand chief, Krishna Agrawal pointed out that Dhanbad nominee Dhulu Mahto is the first BJP candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha election across the country who is holding the flag of AITUC ( CPI) in one hand and doing politics while keeping the saffron flag in another.
He alleged that Dhulu Mahto is openly doing caste politics and spilling beans against different community members; the previous BJP candidate of Dhanbad was never seen involved in such a dirty game, he added.
Letter to PMO, Amit Shah, Nadda
Sources said the District Marwari Sammelan has also sent a copy of the letter to the PMO, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP national President JP Nadda against the selection of a tainted candidate for the Dhanbad Lok Sabha seat.
