MLA Abbas Ansari gets bail from Supreme Court

New Delhi, Oct 18: The Supreme Court today granted bail to MLA Abbas Ansari in a money laundering case.

Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) MLA Abbas Ansari is the son of Mukhtar Ansari, a former MLA and gangster-politician who passed away in prison a few months back.

A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Pankaj Mithal granted bail to Ansari.

The Supreme Court issued a notice to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on August 14, asking for its response to Ansari’s appeal against the Allahabad High Court’s order that denied him bail.

On May 9, the Allahabad High Court rejected Ansari’s bail petition.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) launched a case against Ansari under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002, based on three prior cases. He was book in this case on November 4, 2022.
