New Delhi, April 14: The BJP manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections released on Sunday promised to continue the Ayushman Yojana cover for all senior citizens while covering transgender people.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president JP Nadda, and Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nirmala Sitharaman, and S Jaishankar were present at the manifesto’s release.
Ayushman Bharat expansion
The manifesto states: “We have provided quality free health treatment of up to ₹5 lakh to low-income families under Ayushman Bharat. We will continue to provide free health treatment by strengthening Ayushman Bharat and other such initiatives. We will expand the Ayushman Bharat Yojana to cover Senior Citizens and provide them access to free and quality healthcare.”
The BJP has pledged to hold regular Ayush camps to provide holistic healthcare solutions rooted in Ayurveda, Yoga and other traditional practices to promote active living and vitality of elders.

“We will expand Garima Grahas’ network to cater to the needs of transgender individuals. We will issue identity cards to ensure their recognition nationwide. Furthermore, all eligible transgender individuals will be covered under the Ayushman Bharat Yojana,” states the manifesto, ‘Sankalp Patra’.

Other healthcare initiatives include strengthening the Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and upgrading district hospitals and other secondary healthcare centres by expanding the full functionality of all packages for comprehensive healthcare.
Promise to provide high-quality, low-cost medicines
“We will expand the Jan Aushadhi Kendra network to provide high-quality, low-cost medicines to citizens nationwide. We will launch an Emergency and Trauma Care Mission to provide immediate and effective care to trauma patients. We will intensify existing efforts to eliminate TB, Leprosy, Lymphatic Filariasis, Measles and Rubella, Trachoma, and Kala Azar by facilitating timely testing and access to medicines. We will encourage and extend support to Bharatiya vaccine manufacturers and biopharma companies in various capacities to boost production and distribution and aim to reduce our timeline for vaccine manufacturing. We will strengthen efforts to increase the training capacity of paramedics, technicians, pharmacists, and nurses. We will strengthen our traditional means including Yoga and Meditation, and also enhance the scope and coverage of mental health initiatives like Manas and Manodarpan,” it states.
Senior citizens to get portal, UPI training
Other initiatives for senior citizens include a National Senior Citizens portal to honour the wisdom and experience of elders by providing them with a platform for sharing their stories, insights and knowledge; seamless access to social security benefits and other essential government services to senior citizens by leveraging the extensive reach and reliability of the postal and digital network.
The party will also provide senior citizens comprehensive training in using UPI and other online payment methods while educating them on recognising and avoiding digital scams.
Age-friendly public infrastructure
The BJP has promised to implement age-friendly public infrastructure and transportation systems to facilitate mobility and independence for senior citizens and work with state governments to ensure convenient facilities for senior citizens to undertake sacred pilgrimages across the country.

- New age tains, world class stations, to expand metro network.
- Vande Sleeper trains by 2030
- Free ration for Five years.
- To expand PM Awas Yojana
- Price stabilisation fund for vegetables and pulses.
- Zero electricity bill through PM Surya Yojana.
- Expansion of PM Ujjwala Yojana
- To build 3 crore more houses for the poor
- Every elderly person above the age of 70 years will be brought under the ambit of Ayushman Yojana.
- Reduce the charges on registration of homes, easing the process of clearing maps of homes and reducing cost of construction.
- Three crore women self help groups.
- Hostels for working women.
- Strict implementation of paper leak law.
- Setting up of incubation centres in higher education institutes with help of private investment.
- For making India hub of High Value Services Centre, to set up New Global Capital Centre, Global Tech Centre and Global Engineering Centre.
- Inclusion of all senior citizens in Ayushaman Bharat.
- Tirth Yatra scheme in collaboration with various state governments.
- More emphasis on becoming self dependent on pulses and oil seeds.
- New clusters for vegetable production and storage.
- More emphasis on crop diversification via MSP.
- Periodic review of National floor wages.
- Implementation of ‘One Nation, One Student ID’ through the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR)
- To launch an Emergency And Trauma Care Mission to provide immediate and effective care to trauma patients.
