Jamshedpur, September 6: The southwest monsoon has become weak over Jharkhand and this has resulted in restricted rainfall activity over the state during the past 24 hours or so.

The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Ranchi centre has forecast thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places across the state on September 6 and 7, with the possibility of the weather system strengthening further.

According to IMD, the well-marked low-pressure area over the central parts of West Madhya Pradesh has moved west-northwestwards and now lies over northwest Madhya Pradesh and adjoining east Rajasthan.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level.

The system is likely to intensify into a depression over south Rajasthan and adjoining north Gujarat by the morning of September 7.

The monsoon trough currently passes through Jaisalmer, the center of the well-marked low-pressure area, Sidhi, Daltonganj, Digha, and extends southeastwards to the east-central Bay of Bengal up to 0.9 Km above mean sea level.

Despite these developments, monsoon activity remained weak over the state on Friday.

Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms was reported at a few places.

The highest rainfall recorded during the past 24 hours was 26.5 mm, while the highest maximum temperature was 35.6°C.
