Jamshedpur, June 14 : The Southwest Monsoon is likely to reach Jharkhand within the next 72 hours, bringing relief from the scorching summer but also raising alerts due to expected thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across various parts of the state.
According to the latest weather bulletin, thunderstorm and lightning activities accompanied by gusty winds are likely to occur at isolated places over Jharkhand from June 14 to June 19. Wind speeds may reach up to 40–50 kmph, particularly on June 15, 16, and 17.
On June 17 and 18, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places, especially over the southwest and adjoining central parts of the state. By June 19, the heavy rainfall is likely to shift toward the northeastern regions of Jharkhand.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reports that the Northern Limit of Monsoon currently extends up to Balurghat and Sandhead Island and is progressing steadily. Conditions remain favourable for its further advancement into parts of Jharkhand, Gujarat, Bihar, and West Bengal within the next three days.

While no significant synoptic system is directly influencing Jharkhand at the moment, a trough line from the west-central Arabian Sea to South Coastal Odisha, crossing through an upper air cyclonic circulation over North Interior Karnataka, Telangana, and Rayalaseema, is likely to support monsoon advancement.
People are advised to remain alert, especially in regions predicted to receive heavy rainfall and gusty winds.
