JAMSHEDPUR, May 30: Intermittent rain and overcast skies brought much-needed relief to residents of Jamshedpur and adjoining areas on Saturday morning, leading to a significant drop in temperatures across Jharkhand.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Jamshedpur recorded around 2 mm of rainfall during the past 24 hours, while several parts of the Kolhan region experienced light showers and cloudy weather.

Temperatures Fall Sharply Across State

The rainfall had a visible impact on temperatures across Jharkhand. Jamshedpur’s maximum temperature settled at 32°C, which was 5.8°C below normal and around 4°C lower than the previous day.

Ranchi remained the coolest among the state’s major cities, recording a maximum temperature of 27-28°C, nearly 8.9°C below normal, accompanied by moderate rainfall.

According to IMD data, minimum temperatures also dropped significantly. Ranchi recorded a minimum temperature of 19.8°C, Jamshedpur 23.4°C, and Bokaro 21.5°C.

Thunderstorm Alert for Kolhan Region

The IMD has forecast thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 50-60 kmph at isolated places over East Singhbhum, West Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan on May 30.

Similar weather conditions are expected across several parts of Jharkhand over the next few days, with thunderstorms and strong winds likely to continue until June 5.

Residents welcomed the sudden change in weather after days of intense heat and humidity.

“The morning rain has made the weather very pleasant. After days of heat and humidity, today’s cool breeze and cloudy sky came as a big relief,” said Rakesh Sharma, a resident of Kadma in Jamshedpur.

Weather Systems Driving the Change

Meteorologists attributed the changing weather pattern to the combined influence of a western disturbance, cyclonic circulation, and multiple trough systems affecting atmospheric conditions over eastern India.

These systems are expected to keep weather activity alive across Jharkhand, bringing periodic spells of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the coming days.
