Bhopal, Jan 8: Kamal Nath, a prominent leader of the Congress party and a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, was sworn in as a member of the Madhya Pradesh legislative assembly on Monday.
Sohanlal Valmiki, the newly elected Congress MLA, was also sworn in.
In the state assembly meeting hall on Monday, Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar administered Nath and Valmiki the oath of office and secrecy.

Nath, Valmiki defeated BJP opponents in recent polls
Nath secured victory in the Chhindwara assembly seat by defeating his BJP opponent, Banti Sahu, with a margin of 36,594 votes.
By a margin of 2,168 votes, Congress MLA Valmiki defeated BJP contender Jyoti Dehariya to win the Parasia seat in the Chhindwara district.
Following the party’s dismal showing in the 2023 state assembly elections, Nath lost his position as the president of the state Congress.
With 163 seats won in the 230-member MP assembly, the ruling BJP scored a resounding triumph.
The Congress, which had won 114 seats in 2018, experienced a decline in its performance, securing victories in only 66 constituencies this time. Additionally, the Bharat Adivasi Party claimed one seat.
