Patna, Feb 12: With 129 MLAs voting in favour of the NDA alliance, Nitish Kumar emerged victorious in the Bihar floor test on Monday. The Mahagathbandhan alliance led by the Opposition staged a walkout.

During his speech in the assembly, Nitish Kumar criticized his former Mahagathbandhan partner, the Rashtriya Janata Dal, alleging that it engaged in “corrupt practices” while governing Bihar. He further stated that the present NDA government would launch an investigation into these activities.

Before the floor test, the NDA had conveyed assurance of securing victory in the floor test, citing that the the Nitish Kumar-led government in Bihar had the backing of 127 MLAs.

During the assembly proceedings earlier in the day, three RJD MLAs, Neelam Devi, Chetan Anand, and Pralhad Yadav, crossed over to the NDA’s faction and were observed sitting with the state government. In his speech, RJD leader and former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav addressed Neelam Devi, expressing his “respect” for her choice.

The RJD faced a setback when a no-confidence motion was successfully passed against Speaker Awadh Bihari Chaudhary. Following the vote, he was ousted from his position, with 125 members supporting the resolution and 112 opposing it.
