Daltonganj, January 27: On Republic Day, Vice-Chancellor of Nilamber Pitamber University (NPU), Dr Prof Dinesh Kumar Singh, visited a far-flung government degree college at Bhavnathpur in Garhwa district. The college is yet to be formally handed over to the university by the Jharkhand State Building Construction Corporation Limited (JSBCCL), Ranchi.

During the visit, the Vice-Chancellor took stock of the existing infrastructure and said the college has basic facilities in place.
“This government degree college at Bhavnathpur has facilities such as water supply, electricity, furniture, a boundary wall, and a large number of computer sets,” he said.

When asked whether the college has been officially handed over to the university, Dr Singh clarified, “No, it is yet to be handed over.”

University to Verify Creation of Posts

The Vice-Chancellor said the university would examine official records to ascertain whether the Department of Higher and Technical Education (HRD) has created and sanctioned posts for the institution.
“We will check whether posts for the principal, assistant professors, non-teaching staff, guards and others have been created, and whether subjects and faculties have been approved,” he said.

Dr Singh explained that the purpose of his visit was primarily to assess the location and outreach of higher education facilities in remote areas of Jharkhand.
“Such locations reflect the reach of higher education in the state,” he observed.

Second Degree College in Bhavnathpur

He pointed out that this government degree college is the second such institution in Bhavnathpur. An affiliated college—BSM Degree College—has been functioning in the area for over five decades.

However, Dr Singh stressed that academic activities at the new college would begin only after procedural formalities are completed.
“Only after verification of post creation, sanction of staff, and approval of subjects will the university plan to start academic activities such as classes and library services here,” he added.
