Ranchi, July 13: Over 10 lakh cases were disposed of at the National Lok Adalat held today in various civil courts in Jharkhand.
The Lok Adalat, organised by the Jharkhand State Legal Services Authority (JHALSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), ensured payment of over Rs 1116 crore to the litigants wandering from pillar to post for years. The Lok Adalat held by the Ranchi DLSA alone ensured payment of over Rs 530 crore after settlement of 86638 cases.
Bar and bench are one family: CJ
Earlier, Jharkhand High Court Chief Justice Vidyut Ranjan Sarangi, inaugurating the Lok Adalat along with JHALSA Executive Chairman Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, at the Ranchi civil court, said that the Bar and the bench are one family.
“I started my judicial life with advocacy, and after retirement, I will return to advocacy. In Lok Adalat, plaintiffs and defendants get justice in less time. Only when people get justice on time, the judicial system will be considered to be used correctly,” he said.

Stressing the role of lawyers in Lok Adalat, he said that the five fingers of the hands do different tasks. “When all five fingers work together, the work is even better. If the bench and bar work together, the work will be better, people will get easy justice,” he maintained.
Lok Adalat as a medium of quick and easy justice: Justice Prasad
Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad described the Lok Adalat as a medium of quick and easy justice.
Ranchi Judicial Commissioner Diwakar Pandey said that the Lok Adalat is the most accessible medium for the settlement of disputes. “By organizing Lok Adalat, disputes are resolved through mediation. This reduces the pending cases in the court. Litigants also save time and money,” he added.
Notably, a case was settled in the National Lok Adalat from the court of the Judicial Commissioner, Ranchi, which was referred by the District Land Acquisition Officer, Ranchi. The case was related to the dispute over compensation amount between the affected farmers in Mauja-Lane, Thana No. 162, Khata No. 75 under the Sewerage Drainage Zone-1 project, in which a settlement was reached between the two parties today and a settlement of compensation amount of over Rs 10.14 crore was made between the two parties.
