New Delhi, Dec 25: Reports from the Kazakh Emergencies Ministry on Wednesday stated that over 30 people were feared dead while at least 30 passengers survived after a plane with 67 people on board crashed near Aktau city in Kazakhstan. The crash occurred near the Aktau airport.

Russian news agencies reported that the Azerbaijan Airlines plane, originally headed from Baku to Grozny in Russia’s Chechnya, was rerouted due to fog at its planned destination.

Azerbaijan Airlines stated on its X (formerly Twitter) handle that the passengers included 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russian citizens, 6 Kazakh citizens, and 3 Kyrgyz citizens. The airline then shared the full list of passengers’ names, along with hotline numbers for the families of those on board.

Kazakhstan’s emergencies ministry later reported that fire services had extinguished the blaze that erupted after the crash, and survivors were receiving treatment at a nearby hospital.
