Jamshedpur, Oct 14: In a major seizure ahead of the upcoming Ghatshila Assembly by-election, security has been tightened along the Jharkhand–Odisha border following the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

During an intensive vehicle checking drive at the Rasunchopa check post on Jharkhand-Odisha border, officials recovered a total of Rs 12,28,400 in cash from different vehicles on Monday.

According to officials, the seized cash was reportedly being transported from Odisha into Jharkhand.

The inspection was conducted under the supervision of Magistrate Padam Lochan Mahato, with Kowali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Dhananjay Kumar Paswan present on the spot. The entire process, including cash verification and seizure, was recorded on video.

Administrative sources revealed that the money was confiscated in four separate cases — Rs 73,000 from one individual, Rs 1,25,400 from another, Rs 3,50,000 from a third, and Rs 6,80,000 from a woman identified as Sunita Sewaiya.

Magistrate Mahato said that all the cash has been seized, and further legal action is being initiated as per election guidelines.

He added that checking operations at the border have been intensified to prevent the misuse of money during the election period.
