Jharkhand HC sets Nov 10 for detailed hearing on local body polls

 

Ranchi, Oct 14: The Jharkhand High Court on Tuesday heard a contempt petition related to the local body elections.

During the proceedings, the state government submitted a sealed cover report before the court. However, the court returned the report without opening it, directing the government to present it at the next hearing.

As the state cabinet meeting was pre-scheduled, the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, and Urban Development Secretary were allowed to leave after being physically present in court, following a request by the Advocate General.

The court directed them to remain present on the next hearing scheduled for November 10.

The State Election Commission had sought at least three months’ time, but the court rejected this plea and instructed it to work within a shorter timeframe.

The High Court has fixed November 10 for a detailed hearing in the matter.

The case was heard by Justice Anand Sen. The contempt petition was filed by outgoing councillor Roshni Khalkho, and advocate Vinod Singh presented arguments on behalf of the petitioner.
