Paris, August 3: Indian archer Deepika Kumari who hails from Jharkhand moved on to the quarterfinals of the individual women’s archery event at the Paris Olympics on Saturday after securing a victory over Michelle Kroppen of Germany in the Round of 16.
Deepika Kumari triumphed 6-4 (2-0, 1-1, 2-0, 0-2, 1-1) over her German opponent in the Round of 16 match held at Les Invalides.
The Indian archer started strongly, winning the first set 27-24. In the second set, Deepika registered scores of 10, 8, and 9, whereas her German opponent maintained consistency with three consecutive 9s.
Deepika rallied to win the third set and take a 5-1 lead in the match. Despite a lack of consistency that led to a loss in the fourth set, she managed to tie the fifth set, thereby advancing to the quarterfinals.
