Paris, August 30: Avani Lekhara won the gold medal, while Mona Agarwal secured bronze in the Women’s 10m air rifle final (SH1), marking the beginning of India’s medal count at the Paris Paralympics on Friday.
Avani Lekhara not only retained the gold medal she won in Tokyo Paralympics in 2021, but also broke her own Paralympic record, improving it from 249.6 to 249.7 on Friday.

In the qualifying round, Avani scored 625.8, placing her behind Iryna Shchetnik, who set a new Paralympic Qualification Record with a score of 627.5. Competing in her first Paralympics, two-time World Cup gold medalist Mona shot 623.1.
As of the second day of the Paralympics, India has already won two medals, with the possibility of more to come later in the day.
India has an opportunity to increase its medal count later in the day, as Manish Narwal has qualified for the final of the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event. The final is set to take place shortly.
