Ayodhya, Dec 30: Following the inauguration of the Ayodhya Railway Station, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport in the temple city of Ayodhya.

The expansive airport in Ayodhya was constructed by the Airports Authority of India following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Uttar Pradesh Government in April of the previous year.

The construction of Phase 1 of the cutting-edge airport has cost about Rs 1450 crore.

Approximately 10 lakh passengers can be served annually by the 6500 square meter terminal building at the airport.

Temple architecture and sustainability features

The terminal building’s front design mirrors the temple architecture of the soon-to-be-constructed Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. Inside, local art, paintings, and murals illustrating the life of Bhagwan Shri Ram embellish the terminal’s interiors.

Ayodhya Airport’s terminal building also has a number of sustainability features, including LED lighting, rainwater harvesting, insulated roofing, water treatment and sewage treatment plants, solar power plants, and landscaping with fountains. These features are included to achieve a 5-star rating in the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA).
